My First Punk Gig - Derek’s Tale

A Glasgow-based woman reflects on her experiences on the Seventies punk scene and how the fashion gave her the confidence to change career and travel!

Ilene’s Tale is a follow-up to the internationally-award winning My First Punk Gig - Derek’s Tale. In this short film, we meet Ilene, a retired woman from the Renfrewshire area outside Glasgow, who reflects on how she found the courage to dress in the daring punk fashions of that time. She recalls the reactions from her family and travels back in time to meet her younger self (played by queer actor Kellic Sipthorp).

The first episode of My First Punk Gig, in which two contributors, Jonzip of Glasgow band The Zips and Tony Gaughan of punk memorabilia and hub ‘Blitzkrieg Shop’ reflected on their first punk gig was a resounding success with hundreds of punk fans tuning in to watch the YouTube Channel, and this film provided the blueprint for the second episode. The second, Derek’s Tale, is also available on YouTube and has enjoyed the same viewing.

Ilene’s Tale will be submitted to film festivals in the following two weeks. Being both entertaining and heart-rendering, Ilene’s experiences are very much worthy of a viewing and we are hoping that this film will enjoy the same success as Derek’s Tale. And who knows - maybe a fourth one is in the works?
